Well I got the Laramie fixed, broken right out of the box.  The handspring was broken.
Took it to the range (it is 38 special).  Now I may not be the most accurate shooter on the planet but at about 10 yards out, I found I had to aim at the bottom of the target to get the rounds to hit.  Figured it is shooting something like 10 to 12" high if I line the sights up.  I gave it to a friend who is not bad shooter and same thing.

The other thing was even with a good hold it seemed to hit all over the target.  Tried different bullet weights and stuff and same thing all over the place.

Anyone else have this problem?  Guess the back sight could be ground down, but just wondering about the fliers.

Yeah... I've got a .45 LC with the same problem.  I obtained a lower rear sight blade, but only got three or four inches correction.  The front sight isn't something that lends itself to replacement with a higher one, either.  Don't know what the manufacturer was thinking.  Why they couldn't have stuck with the fixed sight version, and sighted it for 230 gr at 710 ft/sec like the original, I can't understand.  Or maybe using a heftier .45 LC.  The windage adjustment isn't any better than the rear sight on a rifle.  The original NM #3 was about the only single action that was relatively "safe" to carry with a live round under the hammer.  The original target models were NOT, as they didn't have the rebounding hammer the fixed sight version did.
Ride to the sound of the guns, but watch out for bushwhackers! Godspeed to all in harm's way in the defense of Freedom! God Bless America!

Shooting high was a common problem with all the ones I have (and have had). Typically I corrected each of those by reducing the height of the rear sight insert and notch.

The issue of shooting "all over the target" is not one I have encountered. In fact, My Laramies and New Model Russian are among the most accurate revolvers I own -- once the elevation issue was resolved.

Wish I could be of more assistance.

My Laramie .38s shoot fine out of the box (6.5")

ditto my Russian

I've got two (.45's) and they shoot true.

A gunsmith buddy says he's seen many of the Laramies which need work on their forcing cones.  You may want to check this out on yours.
