I finally had a chance to "show off" some photos I recently received back from Josh Brolin, Will Arnett, and Ed Harris. I provided most of the gunleather in their shows and wanted to share these pics. I most recently provided saddles and gunleather for the remake of "True Grit", I'll post those pics later when the show comes out, supposedly Christmas. I do have a pair of saddlebags from that show that are marked "Rooster" on the back, I wonder what that could mean???!!! Thanks!

I've had your website saved to my favorites for sometime now. I found you in a Google search while browsing info on the Jonah Hex movie awhile back, and I was very impressed with your work. Great work on the Appaloosa and Jonah Hex rigs.

David,
I was one of the ones that went to see Jonah Hex. Good action movie(loved the twin gatlings mounted to the horse plus the dynamite launchers),not the best western ever created, but still loved it.
Hate to say it, when I saw the buscadero gun rig on Hex, I heard nails on the chalkboard. But he was using at least one Remington so I forgave the prop department.  And now that I found out that you made the rigs and were sort of forced ;) ;) ;) into it, I forgive you.
On the HEX gun rig, was that made for two remingtons, or did props just put whatever they wanted in the holsters?

The prop man and I fought hard against those buscadero rigs, but it is a comic book. I think one is for a Colt SAA and the other a Remington conversion. I own two sets of the belts/holsters. They rented three sets from me, then Warner Brothers purchased one set from me at the end of the show. The prop guys are long time friends of mine and know how I like to be authentic, so I quickly earned the name "Buscadero Dave " on the show! I'm affraid I might be stuck with that! The saddle that had the gatling guns mounted to it was also mine. I know they were going for a different crowd on the show, but probably missed the boat all the way around. Thanks guys!

I haven't yet seen Jonah Hex, but I have read a few of the comics in my day.If the movie is based on the comic then in my opinion it could be argued it is more of a Science Fiction film more so than a Western. I mean he is a super hero. well actually and anti hero! He just so happens to be based within the time period of the old west!!! I am looking forward to seeing her  :o ( Megan Fox ) I mean the movie!!!!  :-[  I meant to say the movie!  ::)

A work in progress.

;D  I haven't seen the Jonah Hex movie, or read the comic books and I don't do any real-time computer "chatting", so I can't make any statements borne of experience.  However, I just have to question how a person on horseback could operate two gattling guns (hand-cranked weapons) at the same time.  Just as I've always wondered how someone could engage in cybersex with just one hand!!(?)  I'll bet the movie shows us just how that's done, though.  The gattling gun thing, I mean.  ::) 8)

David, I have visited your web site and have taken a look at your work there.  It is very nice stuff and am pleased to hear that you try to bring elements of authenticity to the movies.  I know that things like that are very often overlooked and glossed over as being unimportant when movies are made.

I'm pretty new here on these CASCity Forums, but I want say to thank you for posting advice, information and assistance here for all to see and share

Thanks for the kind words. I noticed your profile pic is of Tommy Lee Jones on "The Missing". The part in the movie where the cavalry, with Val Kilmer, is looting the house is all my guys. In fact if you look real quick when TLJ is shooting from the goat pen, a cavalry corporal gets the drop on him from behind, but puts his gun down. The corporal is me! The saddle that Dot rides is one I built also. I didn't build TLJ's saddle, Clint Mortenson did, and a fine piece of work I might add.

Thanks for sharing this, David. That's some outstanding work. TW's right, that had to have a fun factor, too.

Hey David,
Yeah, I like that movie, The Missing a lot.  The acting was first rate!  It was an under-appreciated film in my opinion.  I've often wondered if, on period pieces like this, the director has historical and period prop advisors keeping him on track so the movie is true to its time period.  I am thinking it must be so, because this movie felt more true-to-life in its story line and character development than anything I can recall seeing right at the moment.   A case in point being the character you played, who (theoretically) understood the situation and was not going to murder the Tommy Lee Jones character, Sam Jones.  (This discussion makes me want to go back and watch the movie again, for the umpteenth time!  :) )

I'm thinking that a huge amout of thought and effort went into making the look, feel smell and sound of that film authentic. I know that the people who work hard to do the research and who champion that kind of effort and those who are on the ground, doing the work, never get the credit that they are due and so many of them are actually working for free, hoping that doing these "favors" will get them real, paid movie work in the future!  I just hjope that they don't give up!!  It's cool that you were in the movie and actually had a real part, and that furthermore, you were able to contribute to its gritty authenticity.  Please keep up the good work!
