I had an order for a buttstock cover with this Celtic design on it. Had to modifiy the design a bit, but it still was difficult for me to do with all the small sharp turns involved. I dyed the cover and then incised it to make the design. Won't be doing anymore of those soon!

Very Nice Slim! I have been wantin to try my hand at doin a carving in that manor. I thought it would be cool to come back through after the dye work is done and inlay the design like that. It looks very cool! I am definitely going to have to try it know. Great job Slim!

It's rare that I send a picture from this forum to my wife, but I sent this one. That's downright amazing

I plan on making me a set of incised holsters based on one in Packing Iron but the pattern is much easier to do, no sharp corners and more room to work in. I hope this guy doesn't like these TOO much 'cause I ain't doin' another one! The pattern was so close together I had a real hard time not losing the pattern 'cause my hand kept blocking my view.

That really is beautiful, Slim. I wouldn't swear off those. You did a first rate job. Just charge enough to make it a pleasure to do. ;)

Slim,
That is really a great job.  What did you use to highlight the carving?  That can't have been easy.  The delicate little curves in the boar's hooves and the other tiny little twists and turns.......heck!  That is surgical precision!  Keep doing that!

I used a freehand stitching groover. IF... I do anymore I am going to use my own pattern and not the one this customer sent. Seems everytime I try and copy someone else pattern things are more difficult than when I use my own. I guess nobody knows my weaknesses and strengths better than I do!

Put the price at what the aggravation is worth and that should cut down on the orders! ::) ;D

I do that, but how much is aggravation worth? Doesn't always work, either. Years ago when I worked as a mechanic in a motorcycle shop this guy came in with a highly modified motorcycle and wanted me to re-wire the complete bike. I REALLY didn't want to do it, so I gave him a rediculous price, but being as he knew HE couldn't do it he went for it. What a PIA that was, and it tied me up for weeks when I coulda been working on normal jobs and kept my sanity. I suppose if I had nothing else lined up I would do it but that is almost never the case around here, I always have something useful to do. But I learn from my mistakes and one of the things I have learned is when to say NO.

If ya really wanted 5 I would do it, but with MY pattern. Maybe! After I do 2 incised Slim Jim holsters for myownself I might be more disposed to making the covers if I hit upon a nice but easier to do pattern.
