My Uncle Brian, who is an amazing wood worker, made me a couple items for leather workin. He seen the cheap wooden mallet I was using to stamp with, and made me a maul from solid cherry wood. It is supper nice! It is night and day using it over the cheap mallet! it weighs about 10 oz.! He also made me a medium size ball stylus out of some nice flamed maple. It has a large handle which helps prevent my hand from cramping up when doing transfers and such! He is gonna make me an x-acto knife handle and some different size stylus'. Here are a couple pics of the Maul and stylus he just made me!

What beautiful tools. The guy's an artist, for sure. You're fortunate to have an uncle like that.

You know, anyone can go to the store and buy you a present. And it is special. And shows thoughtfulness.

But a hand made gift shows all that and the love that the person put into it ....

Looks like you hav a pretty special uncle!

You're uncle could turn his hobby into a nice little side business, if he wanted to turn fun into work!

Thanks for the kind words everybody! My Uncle is very talented when it comes to wood carving. He is a pretty cool dude!  ;D

Will, I told him he could make a living with his hobby! His oldest boy is guitar player! You should see the beautiful guitar he made his boy. ( Electric, shaped like a tele! ) He is an unbelievable wood worker. Don't know if he will ever go into business doin it though! Only Time will tell I guess! I don't think he'd go hungry doin it!!

Thanks again for all the compliments guys!

Ask and ye shall receive!  ;D

The lacquer has not been rubbed yet. My cousin put it together with the rear pickup just to test  test it before final finishing. The neck is off his G&L ,and the pots are from another project guitar he was working on. He is going to take it back apart and I have been volunteered to polish the body out. He has another neck and truss rod ordered, but it is not here yet! The guitar sounds really good! I was informed he needed a leather guitar strap as well.  ;D

II guess I should put this post in the bunk house!? I don't know!?? If so I guess one of the mods will move it!

This thread has become a little off topic, so maybe we should talk about what type LEATHER strap you are going to make him, plain, or something with a little razzle dazzle, what color are you thinking of using?

Your Uncle is quite a gifted pard, tell him I said so, I've been playing electric guitar since 1955, and so does my Daughter.

Man I haven't had time to think much about the strap since he asked me about doing one. He said he wanted something with a South West flare to it. But he told me to use my imagination. I want to do something that will be a good contrast to the guitar his dad made but will also work with his others and not clash! I do plan on mimicking an old west holster or maybe a gun belt with pick loops instead of cartridge loops. I think to foot the bill best I will need a light toned brown or tan, with a medium russet or walnut brown. What do you think TW? Maybe two pieces of 5/6 oz rough side out on the backed piece then a double stitch lace around the sides of them?

My Uncle is going to make me some wooden handles for me to glue leather to for stropping. I think he is going to make a couple different size handles. He gave me one this evening, that has about a 4.5" stropping area. I still need to glue leather to it. I hope to do that tomorrow evening.

amin, I think your ideas are good ones, and he should be very happy with the way it will look, the pick holder is a good idea too, we guitar players are always loosing or dropping our picks.

The stropping board is a very needed and used piece of equipment in my shop, and I use it all the time, I made mine out of oak, and mad it long enough to get a long strop, I made mine also with a handle , so it's easy to hold on to and pick up, I put a hole at the end of the handle so I can hang it up when not in uses, minus the handle, the leather is mounted to a 3"x14" portion of the board.

Amijn, that's one beautiful guitar. It'll be great to see the strap you're going to make for it. It really begs for a leather pick guard, too. You could make them match.
