Just attended my first SASS shoot Saturday!  I am HOOKED! ;D

Went out to Utah War near SLC, and had a blast. Everyone was downright hospitable! I'm glad I took everyone's advice and didn't wait to get all my gear in order (still missing a scattergun & rifle), I just went and had fun. Several different people loaned me long guns for the 5 stages I shot. I was completely surprised how willing people were to do that.

And, it was shiny being the only cowpoke sporting Remmie's. (1 other guy had cap 'n ball Colt Navy's, everyone else was packin' SAA's). Nearly everyone commented on my 58's. It was kinda cool showing up and immediately having "style points".  8)

People especially liked the flash and smoke. Plus the lube I was using would sometimes sprinkle the targets and burn a little. People liked that!  :D

One quick question - I generally had 1 misfire per stage, where I would have to cycle through the entire cylinder and shoot that round over. And twice I had a round that I had to recap after the stage to discharge. Misfires weren't that bad when I'm just plinkin', but they're kinda annoying under the clock.

I'm using 30 gr of GOEX, plus a homemade lube wad (Crisco + paraffin wax), and #10 Remington caps. Any hints on improving reliability?

Sounds like cap fit issues on one or more of the revolver's cones. You don't mention the brand of revolver your using.
Remington #10s aren't a good fit to either Pietta or Uberti factory cones (IMO).
If you have a Uberti, I suggest CCI #10s...if Pietta, I suggest CCI #11s as a start. Sometimes one or more of the factory cones will be over or undersize a tad..or just be a bit too smooth or rough compared to the others. I have been know to polish them to get a consistent fit and then use the next size smaller cap. Most folks put out the $$ for replacement cones TRESO) right off the bat (eports are that Rem #10 cap is best for them)...but I tweak the factory ones.

Also, the NM Remington has an adjustment for the mainspring....be sure it isn't set too light.

Slim

@Slim - They're both Piettas. I've got a combination of factory-original and replacement stainless steel nipples on my cylinders. I've already got CCI #11's for my Hawken rifle. I'll try those the next time I shoot. See if that helps.

@Angel Eyes - I know! I'm on my way north to have a look at a new scattergun today. Then there's the rifle... and a guncart... and I need to look at a reloading set up... and I need to stock up on BP, caps, and lead... and I really want those Kirst cylinders.... and.... I'm DOOMED!!!!    :o

Yup, just don't do like I did and start two new shooting sports in the same season.  BPCR Silhouette, and Cowboy Action.  It strains the finances even when you have all the handloading gear and most of the required iron.

I still need a shotgun.
