Slowhand Bob

I have been playing around with several ideas recently and have not actually brought them all together yet but my newest rig does show where my experiments are at right now.  The holsters are turning into a great pattern but I just can not get beyond the desire to tweak and I did not put in a steel liner or tooling since I did not know how much I would like the pattern.  They are a 6/7oz leather over a 4/5oz liner and the leather used is the stuff I complained of from Tandy a while back.

The belts are a modular design that allows everything to be broken down into basic parts, no glue, no stitches, just all Chicago screw attachments.  You can see the quick change cartridge panel below the gunbelt which will allow for guns of different calibers, or perhaps a badge panel, the possibilities are pretty broad.  The same applies to the shot shell belt above, I can add, sutract, arrange and re-arrange the panels to suit whatever need might present itself.  These would never qualify for high end leather as the best fitting set up would still not lay flat after a bit of use and the appearance looses much in the way of appearance.  I tend to like the utility more and appreciate being able to make changes without remaking from scratch.

I still hope to do a moduler holster soon, this would be great for club loaners and as something to allow new shooters to be able to try several designs in one jigsaw puzzle format.

Howdy Bob,

Nice idea pard, it sure would make your rig versatile, and make changing from different waist sizes and bullet calibers, and would most definitely make a great club rig for new pards just trying out cas for the first time. 8)

Bob,

This is WAY off the topic , but I own and shoot a Model 87 too.

How do you like yours?

I have two of them from Cap, they were a part of the mixed up double order he received from China and have paired numbers.  One of the two, the one pictured, will not extract/eject properly and I am waiting for the funds to get it fixed.  As to the one that works. it kills my fingers to use it.  My finger joints have seen much wear and tear through the years and they just do not appreciate the heavy action required in the '87s.  I have heard that the new Italian(?) 87s are much nicer but one pard has reported similar stress on his hands from these new versions also.  I still like my working model enough to use it on occasion but accept the need for aspirin after the match.

It's great to have your rig so versatile, Bob. Good idea.

On that '87, don't stick your fingers through the lever. I sprained a knuckle when I was shooting one. Instead, I started grabbing the outside of the lever to operate it that way. If you have short fingers, that won't be as easy but that technique allowed me to jam the lever open sharply enough for a good eject using the heel of my hand. I'd grab two off my belt and load with my shooting hand. Then I'd grab the lever from the outside and close it, sticking my finger on the trigger and popping one off. Jam open and closed briskly for the second shot. I put muscle into that lever but it always seemed to be up to the job. The hand on the forend never moved and the gun stayed planted against my shoulder until done shooting it. No more discomfort that way.

Concerning Model 87s ...

I have a Cap Coyote Model 87, and the first shell would get caught in the action almost every time ... it got really old watching the clay on a pop-up carash to the ground while I dealt with that stuck shell.

So I have two options:

First, I went from my Wallmart 12 ga ammo to Winchester AA Featherwights, and the shells eject, if not like buttah, certainly acceptably.

And for the popups, I got a single trigger Stoeger Uplander ... kind of a gamer thing to do, but hey! I'm here to have fun

Bob, once again you are a great source of inspiration, and I love the look.
