I've been on some Forums where people tended to be not only rude but even agressive. If someone disagreed with what you said or if you asked a question they thought was 'stupid', they really threw fits and called names. This bunch of folks tend to be a lot more agreeable and not as ready to wanna fight.
Thanks for having good manners.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

Your right that;s why i like it here.I poke fun alot and stir the pot once and awhile just to keep the blood flowin and it's all in fun.I apreciate everybody here, even Delmonico and St Goerge :D I do apreciate thier knowledge and should say so more often. If i was gonna recomend a trail cook to soemone it would surely be Delmonico and knife knowledge would be St.Goerge, they really study about what they do.I can't begin to tell ya what i have learned from everyone here in the different forums. This place should be a mandatory study in any school or college~~

Thanks for having good manners.

You best be careful... them's fightin' words.   ;D

There's one thing I've observed over the years.  There is a significantly higher proportion of honourable, upstanding, and just good all 'round folks in the shooting sports... well the ones I've been involved with anyway.  If you poKe your head into the worlds of pretty much any type of "organized" sports, you will shake your head and think what a pile of buffoons.  Petty, undisciplined, and often times crooked.  I always say that gun people are the best people.

Well said Sort Knife, and if one will think way back, most often the teacher that you learned the most from was that slightly gruff one with the heart of gold that actually tried to get you to do a bit of real thinking. ;)  Which a lot of folks realize that my intent is for the most part.  You learn far more if someone helps you a bit to study for the test than if they just gave you all of the answers. ;)

Well, on May 8th, I attended the funeral of an old friend of mine.  I'd known George for almost 19 years.  I think I was 15 years old or so when I first ran afoul of him ;D... trying to buy some bullets to load .303 British.  He was the go-to guy for anything gun related.  He was a lifelong shooter, coaching bullseye for many years, having a few under his tutledge compete on the world stage as he did.  A hunter in the purest form.  It mattered not about the size of the animal taken but the spirit in which it was.  One of the finest individuals I may ever meet in this life.  It made me think.  Everyone that fits that bill has been an avid shooter and responsible gun owner.  What drove it home was something his daughter had to say in the portion of his eulogy one may have called "He believed."

"He believed, that the focus you need to make that perfect shot can make you a better person."

I left for the range in Prince Albert later that day, and shot in our club's Mother's Day Shoot the next.  Most of you may not buy this, but those words cycled through my head most of the day.  Particularily when the timer would go off.  Maybe it's something so subconcious we all become better humans through the seemingly innocuous act of lining up a blade with a notch.  It could be having the responsibility of a device capable of causing grievous harm, and making the choice to use it for good rather than evil.  What do you think the odds are of having the government or a university conduct a study on this idea?  I'll need a pallet of primers, cases of Goex and some Trail Boss.  Also about 30 tons of lead, and two tons of tin.

Delmonico

Short Knife, I would have loved to have met your friend, he sounds like my type of person.

Short knife, thanks for sharing your friend with us, I had friends like this, and still have, I feel bad for those that for one reason or another , don't take the time to get to know some of these well meaning but some times gruff mannered pards, that really have there heads together, there is so much we can learn from others, if we just open our minds to it, like Rick and others have said this forum is the best mannered of them all,  IMHO, and there are so many knowledgeable pards here that openly share there talent with others, it would be hard to find another forum with the knowledge base we have here, so thanks to all you pards that share information with class and not with arrogance, after all it's the cowboy way.

Thanks guys.  you know, George had a good life.  A big life.  He had been ill with a bad heart for many years, it eventually lead to the stroke that took him away.  He died without a great deal of suffering, and surrounded by his family.  He may disagree, but it was a good death.  He was 79.  He will be missed.

This forum is full of a hard core breed of genuine gun cranks.  And those seem to be the people that old George liked to sit and chat at length with the most.  The "Fudds" annoyed him to no end.  I'm sure he would have liked to meet with any one of you as you would have like to meet with him.  This is judging from the quality of the posts on here.

As a matter of fact, I had him all fired up this winter to come check out out Big Bang shoot that I just returned from just now.  Took a break from scrubbing holy black, to check the forum.  I really wish he could have come for the spectacle.

So maybe this should be our pitch.  "Better living through shooting."   ;D  Any takers?

Pards, Cas City has been a great place since it started and that was before there was a Wire. Ask me at a shoot on why there is a Wire.
Anyway,  I sure appreciate Marshal Halloway for letting us come here, relax and enjoy each other. He changes it around as interests change, but it is still a place where you can find a section that is just right for you.
Notice a few of us have Ghost Rider by our log in names? That is because we were members of the old CAS-L list. It was all email in those days and I used to get anxious to open my email to read a funny tale or joke, to get advice on what to shoot or how to shoot it.
Yup, this is like a warm cabin to me, right here.  :)
