Thank you Perry  ;D ;D ;D Two Flints

Hello SSS,

I just heard that the replacement Spencer stock that I ordered from Dunlap Woodworking is in customs, so I am off to get it now.

Here are some photos of the stock as received. First impressions are good. As you can see it is not inlet for the saddle ring bar, presumably because it is the same stock for rifle and carbine. I should be able to start the project next week - my first task is to figure out how to get the old stock off without further damage to it. I have some experience of stock fitting and will proceed slowly, taking photos as I progress.  When it's complete maybe I will post a step by step photo diary.  (That will be a GREAT THREAD to READ and SEE :o :o :o :o) Two Flints

Price of the set was $135 plus shipping. Daniel at Dunlap Woodcrafts was very helpful and efficient. Their link is: http://www.dunlapwoodcrafts.com/milstocks.htm  & Email address is dunlapwdcrafts@aol.com.

to remove butstock(1)remove lockplate & sadle bare plate if aplickable(2)remove triger plate(3)remove butplate(4 ) now you will see a round nut that goes around the magizine tube, remove this and the stock should slide back off the magizine tube,if it wont move the tube is rusted to the stock, lightly tap the stock and you should get movment, there are some realy good stock restores in the UK it would pay to get yours restored

From Daniel at Dunlap Wood Crafts:

Hi Two Flints,

Thanks for your interest in our products. The cost is $135.00 plus shipping and I may have two sets. I will check and let you know.

I loved that question about designed to fit an original or a reproduction.....the honest answer is that we always try to aim for one or the other and there is always the time that some body always shows with one that requires modifications. At that point we custom carved the stock. We favor the undersize because one can always remove wood but it is very difficult to put it back.

Regards,
Daniel
