The "From the Marshal's Desk" column on the December Shootist mentions a "midrange" at the Nationals. I suspect it's some sort of match, but what kind?

Kflach.

Midrange is a sort of longrange match. We dont realy have a facilty to do more then 100 yards. We have come up with a comprmize of sorts we set aside the entire club and back up in 50yrd vollies starting with 100yrd150,200 then 250 I think. That puts at the top of a hill about midway thru that patr of club  We worked it out last year so as not to have to shuttle betten 2 ranges about an hour apart.(when traffic is good, witch aint often wit all the orange barrels growing round here.)

hope this helps. Are you planning on coming to join us?

That sounds like a lot of fun. I haven't done anything like that and I like doing new things.

My first reaction when I heard about the shoot was, "HECK YES, I GOTTA GO!" However when I checked the dates I realized it conflicted with an annual convention I go to with my 15-year old daughter. She's more precious to me than just about anything else on this planet, so I won't be attending our shoot this year. It's for a *very* good reason, though.

On the plus side, I'm dressing up Steampunk for the convention we're going to so I was able to justify buying a derby, a plush tie, and some arm garters that I can use for NCOWS.

Little later I'll post a pic of my Steampunk iron, kflach.
You'll love it, and you can convince the Mrs. that having an iron like that would encourage you to do the ironing.

From Wikipedia:

Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction and speculative fiction, frequently featuring elements of fantasy, that came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used — usually the 19th century, and often Victorian era England — but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date.

It's essentially Victorian-era clothing but with all sorts of brass and industrial looking accessories. Since CAS covers the Victorian-era I can cross-over my pants, vest, shirts etc. and just accessorize (which will save me a bunch of money). My wife is making my daughter a Victorian-era-styled ball gown. It'll be stunning (!!!!) but won't be completely historically accurate.

I'm trying to figure out how to make a steampunk gun that'll fit into my Mexican single loop slim jim holster. Steampunk gun examples:

I just tried working a Dremel tool for the first time two nights ago so well see how that goes...

I had to have it! Works great as a paper weight or doorstop, too. ;D

I have two typerwriters from the turn of the century (the one before the last one ;)) that I am saving for parts to back-date a computer keyboard, etc. Too many interests, too many projects, too little time. . .

But would you have it any other way?
