Pre-War finish?

Anybody here know if the finish on the pre-war, inspector series guns is completely done by Turnbull Restorations?  I am fairly sure that the color-case hardening of the hammer/frame is, but how about the armory blue (charcoal blue)?

Are the Turnbull Cowboy SAA's, that are done on the USFA parts, any nicer than a USFA pre-war?

The only way pre-War USFA's could be better, is if they came from USFA with complimentary solid gold bullets.   ;)

I don't have a pre-War, but have seen a few.

I have the standard SA premium grade and its perfect. Just the 'traditional blue on the pre-War' is slightly more attractive. But, Granger also told me, that the pre-War bluing was just a wee bit less durable than the SA blue.

The CC is done by Turnbull but the bluing is done at USFA.  It is the same process that Turnbull uses.  He installed the ovens at USFA.  I'm not sure about the durability.  Both of the blues (Dome Blue & Armory Blue) will still scratch and show wear.  It is a lot less expensive to re blue the Dome blue parts thean the Armory Blue parts.  I have a friend that has both the a Pre War and the standard single action, shoots them often and I see no difference in how both blues are holding up.  The PW is one fine looking gun

Blueing is done by Turnbull also. I have a pair of USFA pre-wars, one had to go back for a timing problem, USFA has to send it to Turnbull again for blueing because it got scratched when they were repairing.

What Ed is saying was true.  I believe the USFA bluing ovens went in about 2 years ago.

At least USFA has Case Colored hammers available for the Pre-War.  I see where Colt is only making CC hammers for commemoratives or special editions and will not make one for a special order gun.

Not sure of the signifigance but went on the Colt site last night and noticed when you manuever to the single action page, the gun pictured has a case-hardened hammer. This time next week, I will be at NRA convention and look forward to the Colt display. Disappointed to find that USFA is not listed among exhibitors.

Well, the convention was fun. Missed not seeing USFa there but at the SASS booth, where, by the way, I got to meet and speak with The Judge, they had two of the new USFA-SASS guns. They were pretty nice and had a rather high luster blue on the barrels.
