I'm sitting here on the library computer and i'm getting some strange looks. It seems I smell like sulfer.

I got more than that. Approx three weeks ago I went to my favorite shootin spot along a river on my Dads farm. I spent about three hours of "fun in the smoke" shootin my '60 Colt Army and 2nd Model Dragoon. After all was done I walked to the farm house and was showing my Dad my mighty weapons. My Mom came out and after standing by me and listening said "You smell bad, what have you been doing?" When your Mom tells ya that, well yer at a loss for words. I told her that was the smell of black powder smoke. She advised me "If you smell like that after shooting it, you'd better use something else". I shower daily, wear clean clothes, and use good under arm stuff---Oh well. I loaded up the '60 Army and shot a cylinder full so they could see how it was done. I advised them that the '60 Army was one of the main handguns used in the Cival War. My Mom Advised "No wonder it took so long if it took them that long to load and they probably couldn't see what they were shooting at with all that smoke!" I did shower that evening. Enough said.

In one way that brimstone smell has been a small plus for me. After a match I come home andclean the revolvers, rifle & shotgun. Someone would ask "Where's dad?" (implying a chore or other annoying interruption I've been assigned). I'd yell from the basement "I'M CLEANING GUNS!" and they'd go "EEEEWWWWW! It SMELLS!" It works as a great wife and kids repellant so I can further meditate on the fine day I have spent playing with my toys.

A few years back I went out shooting on a hot summer day. Lots of sweat and smoke, which the body absorbs quite well on such a day. The next day I went to work and as the heat rose, well, a certain air surrounded me and a co-worker asked, "Do you shoot blackpowder?" I answered yes and he said he knew by the familiar smell!

Some say sulfer smells like rotten eggs. It doesn't to me. It reminds me when I was a kid and blew stuff up with fireworks. Those were good times for me, and shooting BP now is just as much fun.

It could be that the smoke deters pesty insects....temporarily....but, I find the natural products in the lubricants HIGHY ATTRACTS insects.

I find the net effect is more "bugs", rather than less.
