Pancho Peacemaker

This is a reenactor group down near Bryan, Texas.  The music is not period, but just about everthing else is.

Fun video to watch.  Evidently, these fellas are highly thought of by all the local reenactors.

Pretty cool and nicely done.

Wouldn't be my choice of music, though.

Actually I've been thinking of doing something like that for us (The Texas Ten Horns). I look at OCB's work and he does excellent stuff (!!!) but stylistically his work tends to be targeted towards people who are already 'kindred spirits' or fellow "mongrel historians." I've been thinking I could put together video with a more contemporary feel - including music like this - that could be used to *unofficially* introduce the younger generations to the idea of CAS. I envision it as 'establishing a beachhead,' generating just enough interest that some people would want to look a little deeper.

The fact that the makers of one of the most infamous video games out there - "Grand Theft Auto" - are releasing a new western video game "Red Dead Redemption" (http://www.rockstargames.com/reddeadredemption/agegate/ref=/) suggests that interest in the Old West could be rising. If so, maybe we can 'groom' members of this generation to become interested in the *historical* old west. That's how many of us got interested - we grew up watching westerns in movies and on TV and wanted to learn more about what *really* happened.

Please bear in mind that this is still in the "just pondering the possibilities" stage of development (although I must admit I've roughed out an idea for a "Pancho Peacemaker and The Cockroach Kid" video based on footage from the Texas Peacemakers' inaugural shoot). Don't worry Pancho, if I take it further I'll get your approval before I make it public.

I think my stuff could compliment OCBs videos nicely. I sure as heck wouldn't want to even try to compete with him! I also wouldn't put it out as an NCOWS sponsored video since it wouldn't be 'period correct.' OCB is beyond a shadow of a doubt the man for that kind of thing.

I'm convinced that there are people out there who don't realize they're interested in the Old West yet, and among those are undoubtedly some who would want to know the *authentic* Old West. I'd like to get their attention.

I suspect this demo reel is trying to target the same people I would.

You got my support.  I do think this type of thing needs more tasteful music.  Heavy Metal does not compliment the Old West.

My only problem:  I could never point a gun at another person . . . never, ever.  I don't care if it's got blanks.  I've had basic firearm discipline drilled into my head since the age of 6.  I think reenacting gunfights would not be a good occupation for me.

Pancho,
Since we do not re-enact, that wouldn't be a factor.

Remember the video I took of you shooting at the Cemetery stage in Tyler? After you shot I panned the camera over to show what you'd been shooting at. Well, all those shot down tombstones got me to thinking...

Hey all,
I'm a frequent visitor to the Leather Shop on CASCITY, but like the site so much I tend to read different forums. NCOWS interests me since it is always what I hoped SASS would be for me. More attention to history and authenticity.
I am also a reenactor and know of the Banditos. We all belong to a group called the RGA (Reenactment Guild of America) and they have strict guidelines on safety. Typically, shootouts occur with guns being pointed upstage of the person you are engaging. This gives the appearance of reality to the audience. Yeah, we're shooting blanks, but close up they can injure a human being, so we have rulings on how far apart to be in a gunfight.
Many of us have been competitive shooters in the past, or like Pancho have been drilled gun safety since childhood, so we take great measures to be safe.

I love the video, but would have preferred different music as well...like Ennio Morricone's Ecstasy of Gold.
