You can come join us at our club level matches, Dick!  We're a relaxed sort of bunch here in Texas.  We'll work on getting my 1911 running on BP and your DD/PUK 200 grain boolit.  By that time I'm sure the virus will have infected you and you'll then go out and buy your own 1911.  I've never owned a 1911 until about 2 weeks ago.  Now I'm hooked.

How about my S&W 1917, or so?  It is actually a 1937 Brazilian, but is just the same except for the Brazilian crest.

A S&W 24 is too modern of a revolver for me to know anything about...but, Personally, I'd go with a 1914 cutoff date for firearms....Of course I have no influence on these matches since I ain't the SASS Wild Bunch, or even a local match director (anymore). Basic requirements along my way of thinking are to have 1 each: Self-loading pistol, revolver, rifle/carbine and manually operated shotgun.

John Browning's best - the 1911.  Check out a SASS Wild Bunch Action match and you'll know instantly why you don't want to play with a wheel gun. ;D

Now if you want to play in a SASS Wild Bunch Side match - well, bring your single action revolvers.

Two different games. ;)

Howdy!
I can't comment about a S&W 24 since I don't know what that is, but in the WB match I put on a few years back, your S&W 1917 (and the Brazilian contract edition) would have been perfectly welcome.  As for "action"; revolvers with reloads with moon clips can be incredibly fast; just ask Jerry Miculek!
As for cutoff dates for WB firearms; I've seen it vary over the years depending on the club's house rules. I went a little later than 1914, as I wanted people to be able to bring out a variety of stuff. (Heck, even the movie plays a little loose with its gear time period; the machine gun is a 1917, the rifle of one of the posse members is from WW2, the clothing of the gang in the opening scenes has some WW1 or later stuff from what I've been told, etc.)
As for SASS's official renditon of a WB match; I can see why they chose to put such significant limitations on guns and gear, but I don't feel local clubs should or need to be so constrained.

Grapeshot

I've got a Colt New Service, M1909, in .45 Colt I'd love to use in a Wild Bunch Match as I have the leather for it as well.
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

Grapeshot, bring it to a NCOWS match.  You can shoot it as a main stage revolver.  I shoot mine in the Working Cowboy class.
