Will an Uberti grip frame fit a Second Generation or Signature Series 1851 Colt Navy?  I understand, as with all grip frames, that some fitting will be required, but will the screws line up?  Gracias.

Didn't Uberti make the parts for the 2nd gen?

2nd Gen, yes.  Sig Series, probably; but I've never tried it.

Uberti and other US and Italian manufacturers provided rough castings for the 2nd Gens.  Final machining, fitting and finishing were done by Colt (C series) and Iver Johnson (F series).

I have a fair pile of Colt Signature Series parts.  I have several types of grip-frames, shoot me a pm with your wish list.

The screws should line-up but the threads may be a bit different. Had a second gen. Colt gripframe on a Pietta 61 Navy conversion but had to use Pietta screws (heads are same size but threads were a little out of kilter).  Fingers, that was the short barreled Navy you played with a couple of years ago at the Show-me Shootout and liked the "feel" of the gripframe. Sold it at the next NCOWS Convention and sometimes wish I had it back. BTW, cartridge Colt gripframes will also fit the Ubertis and Piettas. Bought an Uberti  old frame Cattleman with a 2nd Gen. Colt cartridge gripframe that came from the importer that way.

Larry, I remember that pistol.  Shame you sold it.  See ya next week??

What I am considering is building "the ultimate" 1851 Navy, with a Second Generation Colt as the base gun.  It will be tuned and "blueprinted" using every tuning trick I can find to make it smooth, reliable, and accurate...AND shoot to point of aim. Part of that process will involve replacing the squareback gripframe with a round triggerguard brass frame and installing ivory grips.  That's where the original question comes in.  If the Uberti gripframe will line up on the C and F series frames, I am in business. If not...this whole project just got much more complicated.   :P

You shouldn't have any problem.

Fingers,  I will be there with bells on (the truck). Looking forward to another cold, windy, rainy day in the Ozarks. That should be Monday after we all leave for home.

Latest forecast - tonight on channel 10 - is saying 70 and rain for Fri night into Sat.  Better than last night that said 60s and storms Fri & Sat.  Even though we could use the rain, I'd settle for 70 and cloudy for Thurs, Fri & Sat.
