Howdy.

I have used my nutshell media in my tumbler for some years now, and now I see that it starts to produce red dust that covers and sticks to my brass.
Is it time to change my nutshell media now or is it a way to refresh my media in any way? Can I clean it in water without damaging the nutshells?

I was also thinking of trying the Ceramic Porcelain Polishing Media instead of the nutshell. Does this media give me much shorter tumbling time than the nutshell and more important, is it better than the nutshell? ???
I have a hard time getting the stains from the BP off my brass.

Best regards
Sherod Hunter.

Does the Pope live in the Vatican? There are countless threads in the archives extolling the virtues of ceramic media.  ;)

It's possible to soak / wash your walnut or corncob media. Nothing fancy, just a bucket, dash of soap & lots of rinse water.
I suppose most would just toss it and start over, but I've proven it can be done.

Thats great news, Montana Slim.

I'll try it and see how it works. I was just worried that the water would make the nutshell go soft and ruin it.

Thanks a lot.

Lizard litter cheap, walnut media found at pet shops. Hope this helps.

Yep, thanks for the input.

Tumbled a couple thousand pieces of 5.56mm brass today in my recently recycled walnut media. I added a teaspon of abrasive cleanser to the media before I started. I also place 1-2 used pryer sheets in with each load. It helps keep it clean longer.
