While this is my first posting I have been and avid "stalker" for a while. I had an original '76 carbine with brit proofs and let it go last year, and I currently have a 45-60 CC rifle with a set trigger and one of the new Uberti's in 45-75 in the NWMP version. More on those on another post.

So here's the "thread"------I've had a real "yen" for a Teddy Roosevelt short rifle. I have the previous posting of someone else on the forum who shortened their gun to something that looks pretty close to what I've been thinking about.(See "Chilli Macs posting) Anyway my thinking is while the gun would have limited or any resale value because of the money that I expect it will cost to "create" this special order rifle, it seems that the only way I will be able to satisfy this "yen" is to just create/build it myself.  So...........after the experience that Chilli Mac had what recommendations would you all here in the forum suggest should be done and incorporated into this "project" It seems that the "least" expensive receiver should be used since it's going to be cannibalized anyway, however, some of the issues that I've been reading about the Chappys are a little discouraging. I was anticipating some "custom" wood from someone like "Treebone" or one of the other manufacturers, but that's about as far as I've gotten.
What suggestions might be made as to barrel manufacture and configuration ( I'm leaning to 1/2 rd-1/2 oct or a taper).
Finally, I was thinking about sending the metal up to Turnbull to do a "real" Case Color finish...........Lobojack (frimath)

You know, I don't comment often either, but as near as I can tell, with all the grief that folks give the Chappy's, most people say they have good barrels.  Perhaps a good idea would be to have the chappy barrel turned to a half round configuration and replace other parts as necessary.
