I just bought a bunch of 4oz bottles of Feibings dyes. I was playin around with em this morning and man the darker ones really get dark. The Chocolate is just a shade lighter than the black. And the Tan! Well just say it looks to be more of a dark russet than tan. To me anyway! I put each on with a cotton cloth. Worked em in real good and let em dry. Buffed em a little once dry, then applied some leather sheen. I know some of you use these dyes. What is the preferred method of applying them?

I am wanting to get this stuff in my airbrush awful bad!!  :) Bet I can get the tan to spray out rather light, more like a caramel color.

I normally clean the leather with rubbing alcohol on a rag and then apply the dye with a wool dauber.

To get a lighter shade, I "cut" the dye with rubbing alcohol and then test it on scrap from the project I'm going to dye.  It's tricky getting the shade you want.  Outrider turned me onto using alcohol to make the dye a lighter shade.

How long did you wait for it to be dry? With most of the browns I wait over night.

I waited over night before spraying the Leather Sheen on it Cowboy. I didn't even buff it till this morning. I was wandering if these dyes could be reduced. ( or diluted ) I am going to reduce it down and see what I come up with. What do you use to apply your dyes with Cowboy?

Yes they can be reduced. I use wool scrap, daubers or airbrush depending on size of the area.

Reducing them makes one heck of a difference. Man that makes these colors very very versatile! I like theses! Can't wait to finish my next project so I can mess with these more. Are they easy to work with in the airbrush Cowboy? Do you reduce them for airbrush use? They seem pretty spray-able right out of the jar.

Howdy
Yes I reduce them to use in my airbrush. Just remember they don't penatrate was well from the airbrush. The dye is drier when it hits the leather.

I need to try it out. That's for sure. I am going to try and test it one day this week. You use alcohol for clean up Cowboy?

cowboywc

I still have a bunch of the Tandy Solvent but I'm sure alcohol will work. Make sure you clean the gun real good or it will stick.
Also make sure you have a good moisture trap on your hose. A water splatter is a disaster.
