Is it normal for your Kids to want to do leather work?

There not supposed to want to do leather work!! I always thought my kids were weird! I guess this proves it!! 

My youngest son Cody wanted me to build a holster for his Lil Huckleberry ( Heritage 22 birds head ) so I told him we would as long as he helped. We laid out the pattern and I cut it from the leather, then he skived and roughed the back of the holster. We are still trying to decided on a tooling design for it. Well my oldest son Matt had to get in on this as well! Matt doesn't like being outdone by little brother. He wanted a holster for his Heritage Mini Buntline, well that's what I call it. It's got a 7" barrel and it's a scaled down SAA so it looks long like a Buntline.   So He and I laid out the pattern tonight, and he cut it out. I'm so proud of em!    You know if they wind up liking this, it's gonna cost me a whole lotta money to keep them in tools and leather.    What was I thinking!!??!!

The more you let them do, the more thay will want to do.

My best compliments to you for getting your son involved in leather working. Nothing gets a father and son closer than working together on a project like this. I've helped three of my grandchildren make items out of leather.

I started doing some when I was about 8, it was all about the fringe then.  All things Native American were what I wanted to wear and make.   Carried through most of High school.  Stopped about last year of high school due to just being too busy, took ten years after college to get me back into it.  That was ten years ago, it can be a lifelong bug for certain and for sure.

My kids have already done the air traffic control thing.  I talked to my boy's this mornin before they headed off to school, and they told me to tell Uncle Rick to buy the leather and they would make them holsters for those guns in yur Avatar. When did we become brothers?  They are havin fun with this so far guy's, we'll see how they do on them.

Gettin the boys involved is awesome! My son isn't interested, but my grandson, who just turned 5 is. We made him a belt a couple of weeks ago and his mom (my daughter) says he wears it everywhere, even to bed. 

Be sure you post pictures of their work, 'cause we will all want to see them and tell the boys what a good job they did.
