I know what you mean. I tried and tried to get the Bn. armorer to let me have a 12-guage pump. There were four in the arms hootch that had been sent there by mistake. But they were strict TOE at Long Binh, and I didn't qualify for one. They were trying to pretend that it was a stateside post - shined boots, haircuts, arms restrictions, the works. In a war zone, no less. At S2-3 we prized our mavericks and kept a low profile.
