I am getting ready to put cartridge loops on a belt for the first time. In Noland Sacket's post he talks about using a woven technique instead of sewing. Pardon my ignorance, but what does he mean by woven? If I do sew them, what should I use to make the holes? I think the punch I use for the holes to put a holster or knife sheaf together will be too large. I usually use a 8065 diamond punch.  What kind of stitch is used for loops?

Woven means threaded through slots instead of sewn on. Check the last few pages of this thread. http://www.cascity.com/forumhall/index.php/topic,9631.0.html

I just noticed on the How/To several pards use an awl to make their holes for stitching. Is this a big enough hole to do double stitching using two needles? So far that is the only stitch I have used on my knife sheafs and on my first holster I just finished.

You will do yourself a big favor , if you take your time, and read through these tips and methods, you can use an awl chisel, drill, but you need to look at these methods first and study them, on pages 6 through 8, you will find weaving bullet loops, everything is covered, and you can do as I did and print out the information you need , so you will have it in front of you for reference, as you work.

As a first try , you did very well pard, your holster looks great. ::) :o 8)

Good luck, you can do it.

                                   Regards

Hey there Pappy you read my mind, just a few days late! I asked that exact question about weaving bullet loops a few days ago, and even invoked the name of Nolan Sackett AKA Chuck Burrows. I received a great response; in fact it was so good they moved it to the FAQ thread, where there is enough info on leather working to warp your brain! At least it does mine.

You did real fine for your first holster, in fact it doesn't look like a first holster to me, it looks better.

Welcome to the forum, it's a great place to learn and make friends, JD
