Dry firing a Remmie

Is there anything that could be damaged by dry firing an 1858 with the cylinder out?

Might overwork the bolt/handspring as it is designed to have some resistance. Shouldn't be a problem unless you cycle the gun a zillion times, though.
Other than that your probably fine. Why not get yourself some small clear rubber tubing (Lowes has it in the plumbing isles) and make some slip over "nipple protectors" (not for yourself, for the gun)?
