I saw some articles on here talking about the Type II's having problems with the firing pin hitting the conversion ring and breaking off chunks of metal. Mine have not had that problem, but am worried about shooting them now. Should'nt Uberti be offering to fix this issue? These are my main match guns and shooting time is coming up but probably have to hold off until I can afford to take my guns to my gunsmith to look at. Money is short right now since I have been laid off since March of 2009.

Pappy,

Uberti can't fix them until they actually break.  I put out the alert about the firing pin catching the back of the front face of the conversion ring.  My pair of guns spalled off within the first 50 rounds fired.  If you have been shooting yours on a regular basis, and they haven't shown this problem, keep shooting them.  It is entirely possible you won't have the problem and Uberti may have already changed current production guns to eliminate the problem.
I haven't had any other Type IIs come into the shop for the same problem so it may well have been an isolated incident and I just happened to be the lucky person to the the issue with two consecutively numbered guns.

Coffinmaker..... Is there anything to do that might relieve the area where the firing pin comes throuhg to make sure it does not happen? Inspecting mine, it looks like the bottom of the firing pin is real close if not touching the bottom of the whole  in the conversion ring.

Is this a problem only with the "Type II Transitional" revolver or with the others as well ???

To date, I have not seen this problem on other conversions from Uberti.  It appeared to be limited to the Type II Richards.

To be a little "pro active" you can relieve the opening in the breach ring with a very fine diamond file.  You don't need to remove much, nor should you.  Opening the firing pin hole too much will lead to primer flow and start more problems.
First inspect the firing pin, bottom and sides for shiny spots.  Those are contact points.  Relieve the corresponding area of the firing pin hole just a smidge.

Do NOT under any circumstances dry fire these guns without a substantial snap cap.  Do NOT try and use a case with a fired primer, it will allow the the hammer/firing pin to drop too far into the breach ring.

They are actually really great guns.  Not quite "to scale" but from three feet, you can't tell the difference.
