Hello the forum.

I have a 1858 Remington 5 1/2",  .44,  by Uberti coming and plan to get a converter cylinder for 45 Colt to use with it. What should I get as the easiest to fit and use? I'm used to the C & B for sure but not those newfangled cartridges.

Thanks, Tows.

Start by checking the bore and groove diameter on you barrel. A 45 LC requires a groove diameter of .451"-.452" ( old guns were .454")A 45 LC cylinder will most likely be five shots because of the rim diameter. There is one out there that is six shot but the chambers are run at an angle so the rims will clear.  The "drop"in cylinders require no alteration to the frame. If you alter the frame it is the same as manufacturing a firearm, you can do your own but can't do it for someone ells unless you have the proper license.
I was doing conversions to 44 Colt until the BATF told me it was not a good idea, so I quit doing it.
