Hey Pards
I just got my second set of Uberti New model armys. They are 5 1/2" bbl with forged frames made in 2004. They have no forcing cones to speak of. My other set are 8" bbl steel frame models made in 2001, and have forcing cones.  What is normal?? I got both sets as used. I intend to use the conversion cylinders that came with my first set for both. I wounder if the first set was modified for the conversion cylinders??  My clylinders are the 6 shot type. Any thoughts will be aprecated.

I will be interested in the responses to this as I have a situation in which I think that forcing cones might need to be added on my guns.  In a recent post I talk about rotational cylinder play and I am sure forcing comes would be prudent in these situations.

I've run into Piettas with no forcing cone, but my Ubertis all had one of some form or another.  I re-cut to an 11 degree cone in all of them with the Brownell tool, as I wanted to make a smoother trasnsition for the 45 Colt Cal bullet from the conversion cylinder.

I also recut the forcing cone in my 36s than were converted to 38, to help feed that long 148gr hollowbase wadcutter.

The Brownelll's complete kit is part No. 8K228B54.  You most likely don't need that whole kit, (and that whole kit is almost $300)but if you get to the catalog page with that on it, the individual camfer and facing cutters, pilots, etc. are there.

If you don't want to invest in the tools, you will need to go to your gunsmith for the work.

Flint gave you some good info there!

A good forcing cone is nice to have with Minor Rotational Play ;D, but a well fit bolt should eliminate it.

If you don't want to invest in the tooling drop me an E-mail

Thanks Guys
You confirmed my thoughts. I have the brownells kit, and will be doing a 11degree cut.  I noticed the problem when I was correcting the barrel facing, wich was quite crooked on one gun.

                                                            Thanks Jack

Another point, though the question referred to an Uberti, I found the Pietta barrel to be softer steel, and requires a bit more care using the cutters, don't be heavy handed with the Pietta, it's hard to put the metal back on....

Both the Pietta and the Uberti cap & ball parts are softer than a cartridge gun by either or any maker, so use a light touch.
