I realize this one ain't cowboy but I thought you guys might be able to put me on to a place where I could find a 32-20 barrel for this thing.  I shudder to think what might have caused someone to chop the barrel to 2"  ,but the rest of the gun is in good condition . Nice and tight and clean inside an out with no pitting in the barrel.
Only gave $40.00  for it and iI think its worth fixing up if I can find a barrel. Don't really care what length it is as long as it has the sight blade on it.
Thanks, Gun Butcher
Lost..... I ain't never been lost...... fearsome confused fer a month er two once... but I never been lost.

Try Numrich or Bob's Gun parts.

That's not 'that' difficult a barrel to locate - but finding a 'nice' one might take some time.

We have both been quizzing the S&W Board.
There is a Forum just for Hand Ejector Models 1896-1960.
The general opinion of the ones in the know...is to leave the gun as is, providence is someone made it tool to their needs...
Maybe a Moonshiner or Bankrobber  ;) or perhaps a hideout gun.

I have found out, I was given misinformation on my Dads Gun....I suspected it was wrong, I believed, He bought it in the early 30's
I had remember being told, Dad did not buy it new and I understood well before the War.
Providing the make, model  and SS# and was give a incorrect manufacture date of 1938-9 on The Firing Line BB.
The Collectors on the S&W BB correctly dated it to 1925-6.

I got a nice looking 32/20 Smith last summer. It locks up tight, I just need some  32/20 BP cartridges to shoot in it.

Those little .32-20 S&Ws will shoot smokeless far better.

As to replacing the barrel - I'd do it in a heartbeat, and have.

The S&W .32-20 was/is considered a 'sporting' revolver - and not a 'working' revolver - they were common as hell, and parts abound - including barrels.

As I'd mentioned - finding one in condition commensurate with the rest of the weapons' finish may be a problem - but they 'are' out there.

Alternatively - install an original front sight taken from a damaged barrel properly, via dovetailing and silver-soldering cleanly, and that'll save the serial-numbered barrel.

ST.George, I appreciate the ideas, but the barrel thats on it was cut off right in the middle of the stamping so it is messed up already. I might put a sight on it if I can't find a barrel, conflicting reports on availability so far, but I think at this point I may just leave it like it is and contemplate all the reasons it might have been altered.
