Original 44 Henry Rounds

I just picked up a original HENRY round and a original 44 rim fire blank round. The live round is head stamped "H" and the blank is head stamped "U". I also picked up the bolt from a early Navy Arms 44 Rim fire Henry.

The gentleman I got it from changed it out for a 44-40 bolt and shoots 5 in 1 blanks in it. He said he ha never tried a live round, only blanks for Civil War reenacting. I warned him to NEVER try a live 44-40 until a qualified gunsmith checks it out!

He said it is indeed marked 44 Henry Rim Fire. I hope to talk him out of the gun some day??

I'm not sure where you came up with the "HE" and "UP" headstamps. Your loaded round is marked with an impressed "H" headstamp. This one was manufactured by the New Haven Arms Co., in the late 1870 to mid-1880 period. The blank round with the "U" headstamp was manufactured by the Union Metalic Cartridge Co. This one dates to the 1890 and later period.

Thanks for the reply. As for the "HE" and "UP"....I should have proof read it again after I ran the spell checker $:-\$ ...dang new Windows 7 automatically changes things to what seems close ...thus the "H" became a "HE" etc...go figure....ain't prorgress jest wonderful!!!...Anyway, I got her corrected and thanks agin for the date info.
