Gents,

Well, you might think the auctions are far fetched but three days ago he sold a reproduction Patterson conversion(description stated the round to be used was a .38 wadcutter w/hollow base bullet) with all the Italian markings taken off & original Patterson markings reapplied for $780.00.
I know because I was one of the bidders up till about the mid $500 range and then I just watched the rest of the way. So somebody who shoots cowboy owns it and perhaps he/she will show up on these boards and let us know how the piece really is.

Regards, John.

I wonder if the revolver would be easier to hold and shoot if there were at least a stud for the trigger finger to rest on, I can't imagine it being stabile to hold as it is.

What a sweet little slip gun. I've been wanting to do one on a SAA and may just do it yet after seeing this one. Of coarse I would buy some new parts to do the mods so it could go back to original.

My understanding of firearms laws is that this (and the Paterson) is a manufactured cartridge revolver and requires a manufacturers license to make & an FFL to transfer.  How is he getting around this?

Ah my Dear Fingers -
last question shall be first - he says in his last line:
"My FFL to yours. Thank you, good luck & God bless. "

Regarding the manufactury licensing, it is entirely possible that the 'smith built it as percussion then the conversion cylinder was added. We can see that the frame has not been cut for a loading port, thus I would surmise that is the path they are taking.

It is completely legal for a US citizen to manufacture a firearm  ;D

You only need a licence when you do it as a business.

Contrary to what others have posted on the forum you can sell the firearm you make or resell it as long as you comply with state and federal law. This includes conversion revolvers.

There is also a 50 gun exemption on the tax for making a firearm. At the point that you manufacture 51 firearms in any given year you owe the tax on all 51.  8)

Thanks for the clarifications.  Puts to rest some of the misinformation/misperception disseminated on other forums.
