Ok here's what I am wanting. Picture1 and 2 are the design, color and style of tooling that I want, just not near as much tooling,  its a bit too fancy for me. I also would like cartridge loops. If any one is interested in making this please PM me and we can work things out. Thank you all so very much for your help!

Curley, I really enjoyed your site.  It does not appear that I am making much headway but I am taking a photography class here and there with the wife.  For years I planned to retire from my day job and try to build a leather craft business but I have found out that there are just to many new things to try in the place of going back to work!  Gotta run, its time fer my River Dance lessons. ;D ;D ;D

El Paso Saddlery make some good leather goods. I have used them as a Law Enforcement officer and CAS. The Ranger leather gear back then was plain, functional, and well made.  The Slim Jim style holsters would do well.  I had a good friend that worked for Titus county sheriff's dept. and I have been through Dekalb a lot.

The Slim Jim style would be more period I feel but I dont think will work with my pistols. My pistols are 1. New Ruger Vaquero 4 5/8" 45LC and 2. Taurus Gaucho 5.5" 45LC. They are what I have and they will have to do since I cannot purchase any more a this time....as much as I might want to....  :) As a former L.E.O myself (Reserve) I used Safariland exclusively so I know nothing about the ElPaso leather products. I may go the El Paso route but I will first see if I can spread some business to a someone from this board.

I would love to see some current pictures of my old house off of Browning street if you ever get a hankering to take some photos of a place that you dont even want to go and see and dont go there often......hehehe ;D ;D ;D

Howdy All,

My two cents; Almost all the rangers i have met take great pride in their gear and especially their sidearm and leather. We have a Ranger stationed at my Sheriff's office and the Ranger desk is the next door down from me. Our longtime Ranger just retired and the stuff he wears daily is awesome! He has more rigs than i have bullets! Our new Ranger is also very proud of his postition and proudly represents our great State of TEXAS. In law enforcement the pay is not very good, but one thing rings true for Texas Rangers, they are always profesional and presentable and carry some of the finest weapons and gun leather that can be had. Retired status or not ONCE A LAWMAN ALWAYS A LAWMAN.

The reason I picked "retired" as part of my persona is due to my own personal history. I'd like to think that Rangers from any time frame have their own personal aspirations outside of LE such as I do/did. And considering that at that time frame (1870-80) there was still alot post-civil war restructuring going on and a smart man could make some money legally in a variety of areas. The persona I am developing closely resembles my own life events with an obvious fantastic twist thrown in....me not having been a Ranger for example....but I am a Texan even though I am not currently living in-state. I know that based on a Rangers skills outside of being a Ranger could have determined his profitability outside of that profession after he may have retired or semi-retired and thats where my persona would come in about that time in lhis life. Still have some research to do but the leather is a start if I want to familirize myself with SA pistols. You probably know the saying....Slow is smooth, smooth is fast and fast is deadly.  :D :D

just a little bit of Texas history to help youout. Prior to the Wat of northern Agression , The Ranger Companies in Texas were primarily frontier  Companies  protecting the citizenry from Indian and mexican arracks. Although they did enforce the Law they were primarily Volunteers who would be called into service when an Indian raid was expected of had occurred and after their need was over would return to thier homes. In fact ,they were known as Minute Men companies as well as Ranging companies.
Contrary to what has been written here they were not well paid. Although the State agreed to apy them while on duty they had to furnish all their own gear and pay was more often than not a hit and miss propsition.
During the War the Rangers became State troops protecting the frontier. Once again pay was low ,if at all but they they augmented rations by hunting and foraging.
Afre the war ,the Rangers were disbanded, and the reconstruction era saw federal troops sent in to "control" the secesh texans.

Gov. Davis formed the State police instead  and forced the Texans to accept his iron rule. I am not sure who was hated worse, the Sate police of the Yankee carpetbaggers.
The State Police were ousted with Davis once the Texas Constitution was ratified and elections were held which overthrew the Carpet baggers.
After the texans had control of their own State government again, the Ranging Service was reinstated.
So if your personna is based on the Rangers think about which era of the ranger service you would like to have lived and ddrees accordingly I guess. Jsut remeber that they werent the badge toting lawmen most associate with the TV image until much later  the mid to late 1870s..

And were not even around during reconstruction and i dont think you would want to be one of Davis' State Policeman who were universally hated. This is during the time that John Wesley Hardin killed one or two of the State boys and was never convicted of the crimes. Most just figured they had it coming.
