When Happy Trails reworked my .45 LC 1866 rifle, he put in a .020" or so washer between the lever and the lifter arm to take out a lot of the side-to-side lever play.

I just bought a new used 1866 in a different caliber and am looking for a source for these washers...

Any body know of one?

Little Al,

I don't know what Hap used, but when the play is just too much, I make my own.  Drop into your local auto parts supply, pick up an inexpensive feeler gage set.  Take the set apart, ream the pivot hole out and cut the right thickness feeler gage with tin snips to fit.  File the sharpness off and hammer it back flat on an anvil.
Simple, cheap and works a treat.

Try McMaster Carr. You will have to buy them in quantity unfortunately but McMaster will have what ever thickness washer you want. They even sell laminated washers you can remove layers from to make them the desired thickness. Those are made of brass or aluminum. They will also have exact thickness shim washers as well. You can look them up by thickness and screw size. Here is a link to there website.
