Greetings from the peanut gallery and the new proud owner of a Taylor .45-75; and, thanks to LarryO, I now have a of very fine bag of fire-formed brass and a load that I think will border on the cosmic.  But enough niceties...

Anyone besides me notice that in the aftermath of 9/11, it seems there was a blatant breakdown in collaboration of information on threat to this country??

Then the details escape me on why or how the wacko with explosive sneaks barely missed a conflagration and still wreaked untold harassment and inconvenience on hundreds of thousands of no - s**t Americans.  I have my suspicions that it was a breakdown in collaboration in information--to wit:

Another situation erupts down at Killeen, TX (that would be Ft. Hood, the largest military reservation on the planet) when an upstanding(?) member of our own military shoots the crap out of fellow(?) soldiers and their families.  Prevention seemed to rest with a breakdown in collaboration of information.

On CHRISTMAS DAY--give me a break--on CHRISTMAS DAY!?--yet another deviate on Northwest 253 with a bomb in his shorts tries it AGAIN!!  And once more, save a little moxie on the part of some real Americans, prevention failed with a breakdown in communications with those sworn to protect us.

Dubya--and I liked Dub--was at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue; so now it's BO, and nothing seems to be heading for greener (read safer) pastures.

Not knowing where this country is headed, I don't have real warm fuzzy under my pack of Bull Durham.  I've been out there with the "rockets red glare and bombs bursting in air," but now I'm an old guy.  Thankfully, we do have some magnificent young Americans on their second, third, fourth (thank-you, SGT. J___ M____, USMC) tours in some rat-hole.  I just don't think it may be enough.

What I just want to know is, who's on first?  I'm sick of this euphemism that says "racial profiling doesn't work."  There has not been a terrorist attack in the last half-century that did not involve a 17 to 43 year old you know who.!  Okay, there was that Murrah Building aberration.   But just tell us, who's on first?

Hi, Spook2.

I have edited the subject line of this post to indicate that it is "Off Topic."  I like to keep the discussion on point for this forum.

That said, I am going to let this thread run for a bit, as long as comments and discussion remain respectful and polite. :)

Welcome to the fire and congrats on your new rifle.

I hear ya about the damn terrorists. But we generally stick to taliking about 1876s around this campfire.

Spook2:
Didyou use my tried and true method of fire-forming that bunch of Brass?  I got a bunch of that new Jamison and fire-formed them and then after priming them set them aside until this next spring.  I got a lot of redid 348's that really work great but these new Jamison are looking mighty tasty in the eyes of my '76. ;)

For LarryO (thank you), yes I did use your very fine 348 fire-forming technique, and after that one fire-form, the 348 brass then fired very well with no blow back whatsoever.  It was easy and sure a lot cheaper than springing for Jamison.

I initially was not getting very good groups until I checked bore diameter which turned out to be .456 instead of .459, so after changing the bullet sizer to .457, the groups tightened right up.

Glad you like my fire-forming method.  It has worked for me for over 40 years with no problems.  When I slugged the barrel on my '76, I did bot the muzzle and the breech.  I made me a hickydoo to stuff the lead into the breech and then used a ramrod knock it out and did the same thing for the muzzle.  Mine slugged 0.457" also.  I use 0.458 bullets and they all work as they should.  I did get some Jamison cases and fire-formed them.  Only got 40 rounds as I got greedy a year or so ago and loaded up on 348 cases.  Glad it works for you. ;)
