I would like to swap grips/frame from an 1960 Army, which fits my hands much nicer, onto an 1873 Cattleman SAA.

Would this be possible?

Should work fine, you will need all 3 pieces. The trigger guard, the backstrap and the grips. Maybe the main spring?

Dakota,

You have two choices.  Blue, or Brass.  Your swap is a common one and quite simple.  If you choose Blue, and there is fitting (usually is) you'll either have to re-blue the frame after fitting, or apply some form of cold blue (Yuck).  If you choose Brass, simply buff it shiny after fitting.
A Caveat.  If you start with individual parts, nothing will fit, probably not even close.  Lots of work.  If you start with a "set" which includes the trigger guard, grip frame and the wood (finished wood), the fit will be very "close" but not necessarily perfect.
Go for it.

Old Top had the idea a couple of years ago. Here is the end result. We ordered a pair of 1860 grips from Pieata. Took almost 2 years to get them. He fitted them to his Great Westerns, only problem was we had to order special screws from Pieta. Looks and works fine. but the "real" Alchimestia is amazing. they worked over the action in the factory and it is smooth as ballbearings on glass. Then they put in a wider triggerand it is CENTERED in the frame. Very nice gun. But Top likes his too.

I'm fond of the Army grip myself...
The grips in the photo looks well balanced with the 7 1/2" barrel

not wanting to open a can of worms though  :)  unless there is period examples , how is this not an external Modification.
when planets align...do the deal !

If you try to order parts you will wait forever.  Best to buy a complete 1860 off gunbroker for around $200.  The parts would cost you nearly that anyway.

It is.  But, SASS rules specifically allow it.

Here is another angle of Old Tops Great Western with 1860 grips. It has a good feel to it, and alot bigger than the standard grip.

(and it is legal too.)
