What kind of stitch have you guys found to work the best on rawhide covered items.  I normally use a whip stitch and was wondering what others use. I say normally but I don't use rawhide very much so if you have a suggestion for a better method let me know.

I use the baseball stitch (yes it's PC) quite a bit - it protects the thread better than the whip stitch, but I also use the whip stitch, the running stitch, and even the saddle stitch - it all depends on what you're doing and the look you want.
On Indian stuff - originals I;ve seen use the whipstitch, baseball, and running stitch - in that order of frequency.

Thanks for the replies. I have always used the whip or blanket stitch on the buckskining stuff I made and I just wondered if there was a better way to do it.  I might try a practice piece with a baseball stitch, never tried that before so it will be something different.
Appreciate the replys, it really helps to have another opinion on some of this stuff. I will be doing a knife sheath and I want to make it as nice as possible.
