Last question, what kind of sling is correct for this rifle?

I shoot SASS and W3G rather than NCOWS, so I want the option.  There will be days when I don't want to use it, and others when I do.  The "do" days will most likely be those when I'm having difficulty walking and chewing gum at the same time...  :-[

I understand, Daniel.

Not everyone is of the same state of mind as we "authenticity nuts."  And there are MANY more "ate up" than me!

And I suspect I know a few, too! ;D In fact, I probably acquired my new-to-me Henry from one of 'em! ;D 8)

NCOWS is still on my to-do list, but right now it isn't close to the top.

Ah, yes.  If you look up "authenticity nut" in the dictionary, you'll find his picture!

(And if he sees this post, I mean what I said with the greatest respect ... and some humour, too!)

I've fired that rifle, Daniel, and I was sorry I couldn't come up with the ca$h - it was a hellofa darn good price.

Major 2 made me one of those spacers for my Henry. I haven't tried it yet, but it seems to fit. I'm planning on shooting Pistoleer in NCOWS when I can come up with another steel frame 1860 Army Cap and Ball revolver.

As did I, in my original post.  I never met the man, but I think I know him.  If you know what I mean.

Thanks for the endorsement, and the price was definitely right!  Now that Christmas is past, I can actually take it up to the range and shoot it!  (I couldn't before, 'cause it mighta set the wrapping paper and bows on fire.)

My intent is not to slap down anyone's enthusiasm!

But when NCOWS was mentioned I wanted to give just a little cautionary warning. Make and use one of those 'thingies' in other venues, to be sure. But also practice without one, too.

You will be more likely to run into stages at an NCOWS match that call for more rounds than the usual 10 of the 10-10-4. You'll want the extra cartridge space that spacer rod contraption eats up. ;D

S & S Firearms makes a repro of the Military Henry rifle sling that will do the trick. www.ssfirearms.com

As you've probably noticed, RCJ, you'd probably have to pack a lunch to slap down my enthusiasm!   Heh-heh-heh!

For what it's worth, my spacer stick takes up the space of two cartridges. No, there is no historical precedent for it, at least not as far as I know. Historically, you would have wanted as much magazine capacity as possible. Don't forget, the original 44 Henry Rimfire round was shorter than the 45 Colt or 44-40, so we are already dealing with reduced magazine capacity. Without my spacer, my Henry's magazine holds 12 44-40 rounds. With the spacer, it only holds 10. I place my left hand just in front of the frame, and although I can feel the stop of my spacer sliding by my hand, it does not interfere with its movement. I just did not want to bother with the Henry Hop.

I also believe there is a bit of a safety aspect to using my spacer stick. If I my fingers should slip as I am closing the magazine, and the follow should spring towards the stack of rounds in the magazine, the follower can only travel about 1/2" before it strikes the spacer stick. I don't believe the follower can build up enough speed in 1/2" to set off a magazine chainfire. Have not tried it, but that's what I suspect.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!
