In developing my persona, I have been researching my geneology to see if any of my ancestors fought in the WBTS (un-Civil War) in hopes of borrowing facts from their service. I have found several that served. My paternal GGGG Uncle served in Co. M of the 1st Wisconsin Cavalry Volunteer Regiment. I am trying to find books that have info on the service of this regiment. Does anyone know of any books that might have this info?

Slim, you might try the State Historical Society's War Museum.  They have mny records and I believe someone to help you with your research.

Look at the 'Historical Society' forum for my "Notes" on researching your Civil War ancestor.

It'll get you pointed down the right trail.

Plus - a simple 'Google Search' of the unit can yield a lot of miscellaneous information - largely from the various Civil War historians and even the Wisconsin State Historical Society.
