Tallbaldbellied: no ill will intended. But some folks, and I don't mean you, outside of NCOWS seem to feel that they should be able to throw up anything and ask if it is "approved". Again, if it is not on the approved list or obviously common, then the onus is upon the user to bring evidence of its existence and use - not NCOWS obligation to prove it didn't exist. You can't prove that something wasn't there, only that it was. A point lost on some.

Take a good look around, the next time you're at a shoot - or read one of the magazines devoted to this business and check out the photos of the big events, and 'look' at the 'cowboys' of today.

Then - look at the period photos.

If today's folks were to 'ride the range' - they'd do it on Percherons - and they don't work brushy cattle worth a damn...

Probably why they developed buckboards.

Incidentally - a quote from the Spring 2009 issue of 'Guns of the Old West' - page 58 - states:

For what it is worth, I have seen two original 73 colts with 1860 army grips (In retrospect, they could have been the same gun as I saw them two years apart.) 1st was in the antique gun shop in the french quarter of New orleans. It had a typed card indicating provenance, that the 1860 colt grip had been fitted by the original owner, handed down etc., it was a fairly short barrel on the 73. 2 to 3 years later, I saw one in Las Vegas, it too was a short barreled colt, listed as a homemade adaptation to a factory colt. I wish now I would have written the serial number down, I would be interested if it was the same gun now. As to the spin off topic, haven't seen 150 since 5th grade when I hit 5'8", height stopped just shy of 6', wish the weight had
