howdy everyone
i'm sure this has been discussed before but i couldnt find anything .  a few years ago i bought my first r&m conversion,an armi san marco, it had a lot of issues in fact  the gunsmith had more than i did the first year. i bought a few parts from vti and they never seem to fit even though i had told them it was a armi san marco. some of the parts would work after a little southern engineering others didnt, none of them fit like they should.
now my question is has anyone changed out hammer an trigger parts for a armi san marcos from  vit if so did they fit an function like they should?
dont get me wrong i think vti parts company are great i always buy from them for parts if it is something i can do as apposed to taking it to a smith.
i just dont want to spent money on parts that aint going to workan have to send them back or hack on them till it works.
i know that when armi san marcos went out of business that suposedly they were very few parts left an if you found any was almost an act of congress.
  thanks for any help

Howdy Hog!

I have 8 or 10 ASM conversions (some are American Frontier guns). I doubt the Uberti hammer will work, the bolt, spring and trigger could probably be fit (not drop in). But...................the Pietta or ASM BP hammer could probably be made to work in yer pistol. Not too hard for somone with some experience.

Is the issue broken/worn 1/2 cock and sear? If so that can also be welded, reshaped and rehardened.

what is happening is that it is almost like haveing a hair trigger but the gunsmith said it is really a 2 lb pull and that the trigger just barely catches the hammer and said to get with vti and order a new hammer an trigger and put them in myself.  i was afraid that after all was said and done the new parts wont be able to work .

If it were mine, I'd deepen the notch, square it up & re-harden with Kasenit.
The trigger may need some slight squaring & hardening, depending on how much material is removed.
Replacement of the trigger may be needed.

The hammers on my older ASMs are real nice & a bit more authentic than most replacements you'll find., I'd hate to replacethem if I didn't have to.

Hogshooter,

There are no parts for an ASM Conversion anywhere.  There are some Pietta parts that will work in some ASM guns with a little fitting.  There are no Uberti parts that work well.

Just to make you feel better about VTI's attempts to help, for the most part, ASM parts didn't fit ASM guns.  QC with the conversions was non-existant.  Only about 1 in 7 guns actually worked.  I have 5 that work but I stripped 11 of them for parts to get the 5 working.  The rest of the parts I sold off several years ago.

When I last talked to VTI, they still had some ASM Triggers, but those were for later style guns.  They will work, but will have to be fitted and the sear properly cut and hardened.
