Back in the day when doctors made housecalls; they may have looked like this gentleman. He appears to be carrying the tools of his medical profession in his doctor bag. This man was photographed by Blatt of Bernville, Pennsylvania. The physician is identified as Joel Stump.

Docs really had it good back then:  no cell phone, no pager, no insurance companies to fuss with.  They got to ride around on a horse or buckboard and be outdoors most of the day.

I was born about 100 years too late.

Review yer medical records, you might change yer mind, 50% chance you would be dead from something that would have killed yoiu back then then that is easy to cure today. ;D  "Course that don't count for what you might have caught with out modern sanitation, clean water, unspoiled food or vaccines.

Sorry to ruin your dream pard, but most folks don't think about that when they say it.  Myself tonight I'm really glad I'm not, ever used an outhouse at -3, will be -15 by morning. ::)

From what I've heard, dealing with iInsurance companies may actually be worse than dying from consumption...

Pancho;

I may have just what you need. ;D ;)
I have just acquired an 8 vol. set of Medical Reference Books done in the 1880s.

I have just flipped through them, but they look fascinating and they have some fabulous illustrations.

I thought of you and Dr. Bob when I got them.  The first one that makes me an offer that I can't refuse gets them.
