The only shine now is two coats of boiled linseed oil. This is probably all I'm going to do to them.

I like it. I've done that to all of mine.
I think they feel better.

I stripped the Poly Finish from my 1866 and my pair of 1873's. They each have several coats of Tru Oil. Boiled Linseed Oil works just as well.
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself
