My buddy and I were watching youtube and saw video of firing a 15th century "pole cannon. Now he wants to build one!

Since he would be reproducing a historical BP weapon, would it be legal for him to do so?

Cuts Crooked

Donno about yer local laws, but they's no problem at the federal level with making reproductions of antique weapons.

...work like you don't need the money, love like you've never been hurt, and dance like you do when nobody is watching..

That gun was originally set off with a match cord. percussion wasn't invented for several hundred years after that gun was made.

So the guy in the video was wrong about how it originally functioned?

That's the most polite way to say it, shut it off after the percussion cap thing, my time is to valuble to waste further.

I would be concerned about safety.  Not of the gun, but of everyone wandering around in front of the firing line and the shooter sweeping everyone in the county.

Percussion caps weren't common until the early 1800s, really common just before the civil war.

Good thing I didn't watch it all, I'm at work and they don't like me to scream  and cuss. ::)

Like I've always said, treat info on the net like you would flour with weevils in it, sift it well before you use it. ::)

They had a copy of a Chinese pole cannon made from bamboo on the Historu Channel yesterday. Fire it with a match. It actually held together for 3 shots.

Before I decided cable TV wasn't worth the money I learned to do a lot of sifting on stuff from The History Channel also.

Regardless of the historical accuracy and the disregard for common gun safety...it was still really cool!   I love to make things go bang.

Saw what appeared to be the same cannon on the History Channel today. They called it a three barrel Korean hand cannon. They said they often used them on poles.
