Another carving question

Howdy to all,
As you all know I have been trying to learn to carve The other day I was surfing ebay, ebay is full of leather tools, I ran across a set of Hide Crafter Sheriaden bevelers. I am in hopes that you all can tell me if you have seen or seen someone or used these type of bevelers?? From what I have read this type of carving is more detailed and finer style of carving. No I am in no way even close to trying that style of carving, but I do know that the better a person bevels there work the nice it turns out!!!!!
So, Should a person try to ad that type of bevelers or is it a waste of money?
I know that there are several pards on here that are beginers like me, and also a lot of pro's on here also. As I allways say, if you don't ask, you will never know!

Hey ACE, I am by no means an expert on anything, much less Sheridan carving, but having recently taking a 3 day Sheridan Carving class taught by Chan Geer, I can relate some newbie experience. From what I was told and saw, the Sheridan style bevellers are more straight up and down than normal bevellers. Chan had quite a few tools for us to use in class, and a whole line of Barry King tools that we could "try before buying". I bought a couple of Barry's bevellers, and I use them pretty much all the time now. They are so much better IMO than Craftools it is amazing.

Over the next year I hope to add more BK tools to the bench, and I know which ones I want first. I've seen first hand some of WC's Sheridan carving, and it is outstanding. I'm sure his recommendations will be of great value.

In my opinion, don't try using steep bevelers yet. They are much harder to "walk them clean" The look you will get from them is really not the look you want for other types of carvings.

Feathers, thank you so much for the email, real interesting reading. I did learn a lot.
JD, Thank you for posting, I wanted to hear from others about this. I am a long way from even being decent at carving, but I feel the more I know and the more I do, surely I will improve in time? ::)Jd, I also would like to have some Barry King stamps, but that isn't going to happen!! My next rig will be heavily carved, and i want as much info as I can get before I start on it.
WC, Thank you for your post. I plan on staying with what I have now, but since I saw them I thought I would ask to just to find out if and when I might need them. It will be years befor I will ever even attemp the Sheridan style of carving. My attemp at even the simplest carving pattern looks pretty bad, but I will allawys hope that I will improve.
