I am interested in learning to twirl and throw a lasso/lariet. First, where do I get a good lasso rope for this? Second, do you know where I can go to learn how: internet, books, etc.?

Slim:

For roping, go to a local team or calf roping - I assume they must have them up in that country someplace.

I have seen books and videos on trick roping.  Use that term when making your search.

Sorry I can't be more help.  Out here, these skills are passed on person to person.

This is a start.  There are many modern poly ropes available nowadays for about $20 to $30 new.  However, break in is really required to eliminate some of the "set" for ranch use.  Or get a very soft/extra soft lay.

I've picked up a bunch of PRCA ropes used to sell at CAS matches.  They go for around the same price but look good.  Rawhide reatas go for about $75 new.  They also require a lot of prep.

If you're just starting, a good 3/8" manila rope is an inexpensive way to go, doesn't take much prep and will hold up for a long time.

Slim,
I don't know too much about all that but I know someone who does.

Get ahold of Western Stage Props at 3945 W. Reno Ave.  Suite F in Las Vegas, NV 89118.  They have ropes, whips, and the like,to learn how to  twirl that rope or crak that whip plus some other stuff.

They have video tapes, and lesson books on how to do it also.

Their web site is:  www.WesternStage.com

Hope this helps.
