Does anyone have a source for Paper shotgun hulls?

How about the burn-barrel at your local skeet club? I've found some there, and ocassionally someone has given me some once fired that they've saved.

A little off topic, but realy, what is so great about paper hulls? I've been using mostly the winchester AA red plastic hulls and they work great. Is it just for style or is there something about performance I'm missing? Not trying to be a smarta$$, just trying to understand.

Gotcha, but when did they start making paper hulls and when did they stop using brass hulls? Got a box of brass hulls and they are fun, but I don't shoot them much.

Paper cartridge cases were the norm for muzzleloading military arms. One of the first cases for breach loaders, back as early as 1809, by Pauly in France, was of paper. Almost all breach loading shotgun hulls from pinfire to centerfire were of paper. I can't recall when brass shotgun cases were developed but I think it was at the turn of the last century by the US military for use in tropical climes.

Brass cases are neat, but not really PC!

I knew about combustable and standard paper cartriges, but your saying the brass and paper shot shells predate full brass cases? That I didn't know, seems kinda counter intuitive. Well, learn something everyday!

I only load paper hulls for CAS. I use the Federal and Fiocchi hulls. The plastic hulls are tapered inside and the paper hulls are straight. When loading with BP and wads like the original shells were, the paper are much easier to load and are much more authentic for those style points. There is a toss up about which came first the paper or brass. The Brass hulls are also fun to shoot but with my 1887 Winchester repro lever action they mess up the load two function. Later David

I tried out paper hulls, and was really really pleased with them. My 12ga SxS normally will drop smokeless plastic hulls, but not with BP. I have to pry them out a bit.

The paper hulls just drop right out. Since I only reload BP, it's a little annoying.

Fingers - Are you still interested in offloading those Federal paper hulls? I'm trying to reload mine, and would be happy to get more.
