Has anyone tried heavier bullets than 350gr that had to be loaded one at a time?

Research the threads in the 1876 forum. There was some discussion on just that. Mostly it's an issue of OAL problems with heavier bullets.

    Winchester loaded a custom long range load for the 45-75, called the long range 45-90 for the 1876 rifle. I think it used a 450 gr. bullet with a 90gr. powder charge. These had to be loaded singly. If you search here, you can find references to it.

You have to reduce the powder charge by 5 to 10 grains to get a 405 grain HBRN bullet to seat deep enough to feed in the 1876.  The oad duplicates the Cavalry .45-70 Carbine load and is quite effective on blowing big chuncks of bowling pin all over the backstop as well as exploding watermellon at 100 yards.
