Black Bart Black Bart was known as the Terror of the Northern California stage line. Bart's robbery routine seldom varied. He invariably chose a spot near the top of a steep grade where a tired team had slowed to a walk. He would step directly into the road, brandishing a doubled-barreled shotgun and wearing a linen duster and a flour sack over his head with narrow slits for eyeholes. "Throw down the box!" was his terse, but efficent command.
