Afternoon, Was wondering if it is safe to load full wadcutters with a hollowbase bullet in .38 Special brass with blackpowder or blackpowder substitute? I would be using it in a Uberti 1861 Navy with an R&D cylinder. All info appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The .38 (Long) Colt shows to be .13" shorter than .38 Spl. If it fits as is it OUGHT to work. If a .38 Spl case won't fit then a trim should bring a Special Case down to Long Colt Specs.

I have both R&D and Kirst cylinders for my 51 Navies, and have never used anything else but 38 Special brass.  Load a HBWC, to be short enough for the cylinder as well as needing the hollowbase to open up to 375.  Load the bullet out of the case about 1/16 or so to be SASS legal, the lead must show.
