Ive heard a couple folks with '72Open Tops say the fireing pin opening wallowed out on them. Have any of you experienced this ? Is there a fix? Perhaps a fireing pin hole bushings ? Costly to have this done ?

Just curious.

Can be expensive and FEW gunsmiths have the equipment and/or know how to do it. Requires a mill and an aircraft cutter I believe. Yes, I had it done years ago.

All the Uberti open tops (72s and conversions) have the potential for poorly fitted firing pins.  Before I ever fire one I carefully inspect it, cycle it slowly and look for rubbing or binding, and then completely disassemble it and check each part for fit and proper clearance.  MANY of the open tops have firing pins that don't hit the firing pin hole correctly and will dimple the metal outward.  Then if you dress down the burrs the firing pin hole may get to big and you will get primer flow into the hole and cylinder rotation stoppages.  Many of the pins are VERY slender and sharp pointed and will wear, bend, or perforate primers.  All of these issues should be detected and resolved before shooting or as quickly as they are identified before any wear or damage takes place that will need to be fixed later.  A good bet with the 72s is to replace the pins with ones from the Smith Shop.  Much better pins than the factory models.  http://thesmithshop.com/openfire.html

The original firing pin on my 72 bent and flatted slightly shortly after I got it about 4 years ago causing misfires. I replaced it with one from "The Smithshop" and have never had a problem since.
