I was just drifting around the show looking at what everyone had to offer when I came across some cartridge conversion revolvers on display. The man that I talked to was the one and only Jay Striteof Ravens Roost Custom. He does collaborative works with Walt Kirst. His company is now based in Gatesville, Texas. While inspecting many fine examples I couldn't help but notice this Uberti 1858 with ivory grips. It was engraved with with silver inlays all around the barrel and loading lever. On the but of the pistol grip was Serial Number 00. I asked him about that and he told me that the gun is actually Walt Kirst's personal conversion gun. Another little detail was pointed out that I couldn't ignore. The loading levers on these 1858's were milled down to more closely resemble the authentic models. Jay told me that he didn't care for the bulky loading levers that are prevalant on all Uberti 1858s these days, so that's another bit of detail about Ravens Roost Custom that I admire greatly. All that aside, Jay Strite has a very professional demeanor regarding his work and I think that he stands by it one hundred percent.

A work in progress.

Interesting .  . . . woulda been nice to see a picture of the gun you were describing.   :)
Beware the man with one gun, he probably knows how to use it.

On the link above go to 'Kirst and Strite', when the menue drops down go to 'custom shop' and I think the bottom gun is the one he is talking about.  It is indeed a trophy to be gently cared for and preserved, nothing like my old clunkers!  Then again, Daddy always said I could ruin an anvil!
