Howdy,

Well, today was the BIG day!  Decided to shoot the Henry at a local shoot.  Had a blast!!  I am shooting 20 gr. of 2f with a 200 gr. Big Lube bullet!  The load was dead on and it did it's job when I did mine!  :o  ;D  By the last [5th] stage I had the Henry shuffle figured out and I am very happy with my Henry.  Did I mention that it will hold 16 rounds!  ;D  ;)  ;D  :D  ;D  ;)  ;D  WAAAAAAAHOOOOO!!!!

Also shot my 44 Colt Open Top with 44 Russians for the first time today!  It shot well too!  ;D  ;D  ;D  I'm one really happy camper tonight!!  ;D

Way cool, if there is ever a posse shoot cuttin' logs like we used to do, loaded up, that would be great.  That would be a real clould-maker.  You just have to hope for wind.  Who did the work, how many $ to convert, & how long did it take?  Any problem with blow-by in the action or fouling??  I have a pair of Uberti .44 Russians & have thought about converting my Henry in 44-40 to .44 Russian.

Dr. Bob

I'm using a full case of 2 F and a 200 grain bullet and don't seem to get too much blow back.  Do need to keep the carrier lubed with moosemilk.

A good friend did the conversion from 44 WCF to 44 Russian and is not a gunsmith by profession.  Said that he was not prepared to do this commercially.

There is a recommendation for Vaughn Trueman of The Bullet Hole in this thread -

The fella who converted mine from .44-40 to .44 spl. is retiring.  Another pard modified my carrier to handle .44 Russian through .44 spl.

Thanks for the heads-up on the gunsmith guys.

Dr. Bob, what powder are you using?  Maybe Swiss 3F would speed up the brass expansion & reduce some of the blow-by a little?

What size bullet are you shooting in the .44 Russian?  I use a .430 bullet in my 44-40.  Will this bullet work?

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a handsome, and well preserved body; but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming...."WOW!... What a ride!"

Dr. Bob

Howdy major,

I have been shooting the Mav Dutchman 200 gr. Big Lubetm bullets.  Some were 428 and I'm not sure what the other were sized to.  My Henry started life as a 44-40 [44WCF] and the chamber has been sleeved and chambered to 44 Russian.  What you have been shooting in 44WCT should be OK!

As always, your mileage may vary! :o ;D

I believe that Springfield Slim sent out an email a month or two ago that instead of making .427, .428. and .429 Mav Dutchman bullets, they all would be .428.
