A while back, I bought a number of Sheffield-made Bowie blades direct from the company in England.  They are made on the same patterns, and by the same company that made them in the 19th Century.  I made this one for myself.  It has an 8" blade (all are hand-forged carbon steel), Sambar stag handle scales with steel pins, a nickel silver guard, and nickel silver buttcap pieces.  I tried to make it look like one from the mid-to-late 19th Century.  It's a real "worker", too!  I've used it to clear brush along a fenceline and to trim large roots out of my garden!

Here are some pics of it:

Hope you enjoy looking at them!

Angel Eyes, here's the website where I ordered my blades:

http://www.sheffieldknives.co.uk/acatalog/Hunting_Knives.html

Excellent service!  It takes about 10 days to 2 weeks to receive an order after it is placed and paid for.  These are great folks with which to deal!

Thanks Jake, I'll see what I can gather from these people. Magic, isn't it, I only live about 20 miles from them!!!

Well done Sir Chas,,,thats the site I was talking with.
As you say, they have some good looking stuff, those butcher knives look cool, nothing a bit of 'aging' wouldn't fix.
The Bowie style blades for DIY also look pretty good, the more I look, the more I may have to pay them a visit.

Just to update anyone interested.
They do not do a paper catalog, ordering is from the website contact info, according to the e-mail reply I received.
The website products are quite impressive, so there is plenty to go at!

Thanks for the link above about Sheffield Knives.I like very much the 6 inch blade Bowie with stag handle.
The marking on the blade is John Nowill and Sons.I just discovered this is a very old company established in 1700.
Do you think this bowie could fit nicely with a Slim Jim and 1860 Army Colt for an Old West impression beetween 1865 1875?  ;D
