Pards,
I am about to order a set of Cimerron open tops for my wife.
As we all know, "If momma ain't happy....nobody (and I mean no-body) is happy"

So.... has anyone had a problem extracting fired cases from one of these in .45 Colt or .45 Schofield?
A close friend told me there was a problem with this in Schofield 72's.
Please, let me know before I place my order.

I've been shooting mine (45 Colt) for about a month now and haven't experienced any problems so far. Probably have 150 rounds through it....

I found the loading port close with the 45 Schofield rim, but it will pass, had no sticking cases.  I usually shoot my Opentops with 44 cyl and barrels, which have more clearance.

I've been shooting my pair of 45 Schofield '72's the the last 18 months and they work fine. Might want to replace the firing pins with a set from The Smith Shop(www.thesmithshop.com) The originals are a little soft and pointed and sometimes bend with use. Easy to replace if you are handy at all.

My 72 is in 45 Schofield and I've been shooting it for over two years now. I've never had any trouble extracting cases. Most of the time the empties fall out without using the ejector rod. I replaced the firing pin some time ago with one from the Smith Shop. Never had a problem after that with misfires.

I had a problem with sticking cases in my 38 Spl OT. All I had to do to remedy this was to deburr each chamber mouth. No trouble since.

The open top is a tight fit for either 45 cartridge, and the slightly larger and thicker rim of the Schofield makes the tight fit very tight indeed.  Mine will drop empties (typical cowboy load levels) without a problem but loading requires lining up the cylinder very closely to use Schofield rounds.  My recommendation is to stay with 45 Colt loads.  There is very little to gain using Schofield cases and you might loose some accuracy with the longer jump the bullet must make from the case to the barrel.  Also the ejector requires a slight twist and push to work unlike the straight push of the 73s which seems to make extraction more difficult.

Have any of you had a problem with these guns not being timed correctly for ejecting cases?  Mine seems to index a little too far forward.

Virginia Gentleman, No problems with ejecting cases in my .45 S&W 1872 Open Top. Started out shooting it with the .45 S&W switched to the .45 Cowboy Specials with the 150 grain EPP bullet. It shoots to POA. Hope this helps.

Yep, had a problem on one .44 cal both loading and ejecting.  Gunsmith fixed it.  Think that he had to recut the half-cock notch.  He said that he's seen it on a few.
